November 18-24
NYC Jewelry Week 2024
at The Jewelry Library
Another NYCJW is upon us, and we’re excited to announce our line-up, featuring two exhibitions – Intricate Blackness and solo: by Danni Schwaag – as well as talks, panels, a workshop, and more. Full schedule below!
Intricate Blackness
An exhibition that highlights the craftsmanship, cultural significance, and personal stories embedded in jewelry created by Black American artisans of the 20th Century. The works on view will be exhibited alongside microscopic images and results from other scientific analysis to reveal the intricate details of fabrication, use, and wear, demonstrating how the techniques and materials used reflect aspects of Black identities. Join us Tuesday, November 19th at 10:00am, as Curator LaMar R. Gayles Jr. discusses how science can be a tool to think about jewelry in more complex ways, focusing on the preservation of Black American jewelry and his recent findings and discoveries. A reception will follow.
solo: An Exhibition by Danni Schwaag
Presented by JB Jones and The Jewelry Library, this exhibition offers a behind-the-scenes look at Schwaag’s creative process, featuring sketchbooks, drawings, screenprints, photos, and videos of the artist’s performances. Known for socially and culturally relevant work, Schwaag explores the human condition in relation to Germany’s social and political climate. Jewelry and art from the collections *solo/- movement*, *genderstars*, and *shut up* will be on display and available for purchase. Join us for a reception Tuesday, November 19th at 7:00pm.
