Visiting contemporary jeweler Valentina Caprini, based in Florence, Italy, shared her story and her work in The Great Room @ The Jewelry Library before leading a three-day workshop on one of her specialties, contemporary filigree, at Brooklyn Metal Works.
Coming from a family with a strong feminine tailoring tradition, Caprini brings these roots into her jewelry, finding new ways of working with textiles. Caprini learned filigree directly from the artisans of Campo Ligure (Genova, Italy) and combines her knowledge of classical technique with a contemporary approach, resulting in exciting work that blends the experimental with the traditional.
